We awoke to rain pattering quite insistently on the roof of our tent. It had started raining during the night and everything was green and wet and cold and it smelled incredible! But we still had another 2, maybe 3 days of hard road riding ahead of us to get to San Ignacio and our Christmas break. So we conferred in the kitchen, around hot chocolate and biscuits and we decided to plead divine intervention. After all, in our book road riding does NOT count so if we skipped ahead a few miles we weren't going to be sorry. Oh, and since we had started our trip in the rain, almost (remember?), we decided on the divine intervention part and called the last few miles. We were done! For the moment.
Despertamos con el sonido de la lluvia golpeteando insistentemente las paredes de la casita. Había comenzado a llover en la noche y todo era verde, mojado, fría o olía increíble! Pero aún teníamos 2, quizá 3, días de pesado viaje por camino de carro adelante de nosotros para llegar a San Ignacio y nuestro descanso de Navidad. Así es que conferimos en la cocina, alrededor de chocolatito caliente y pan dulce y decidimos abogar por intervención divina. De todos modos, en nuestras mentes, el andar por caminos de carro NO cuenta, así es que si nos saltábamos unos cuentos kilómetros no nos sentiríamos mal. Ah, y como habíamos empezado este viaje con lluvia (casi, se acuerda?), decidimos lo de la intervención divina y paramos el viaje. Terminamos! Por el momento.
The next couple days were dedicated to getting everyone, including mules, comfortable for the holidays, and planning to reconvene on the steps of the San Ignacio church for the bendición and the second leg of the 1000+ mile journey.
Los siguientes días se ocuparon en que todos estuvieran cómodos para las vacaciones, especialmente las mulas, y planeamos re encontrarnos al pié de la Misión de San Ignacio para la tradicional bendición de la cabalgata y el segundo tramo de este viaje de más de mil millas.
And here ends my long night of getting it done! I will try my very best to not take months to complete the rest, but you know how it goes! In the meantime, I am off to Belize for a few weeks. See you in the sun!
Y aquí termina mi larga noche de terminar esta parte! Intentaré, de verdad, no llevarme otros meses con la segunda parte pero nunca se sabe. Por mientras, me voy a Belice unas semanas. Nos vemos en el sol!
